Continuing Education for Oregon Teachers

George Fox University offers two Oregon administrative licenses that prepare educators to serve in Oregon public and private schools as PreK-12 building or district administrators. Our administrative licenses are NCATE accredited, and George Fox is one of only seven institutions in Oregon with national accreditation of its education programs.

Designed for Busy Educators

Courses are offered online or on-site at our Portland, Salem, Redmond, and Newberg locations. Both programs are designed to be flexible and can be tailored to fit your schedule. In addition to traditional coursework, students will engage authentic leadership opportunities in their local school or district (crafted together with the help of an administrative mentor and university supervisor). Students control their own pace and typically complete the program in 1-3 years.

Principal License

The Principal License is designed for current educators who seek to launch a career as a district or school administrator, such as a principal. This is best accomplished by partnering with public and private schools to identify and develop leaders who have an equal commitment toward professional development.

The Principal License can be earned as a specialization in the Master of Education (MEd) degree, as a stand-alone license past the master's degree, or as part of the Doctor of Education degree. Classes within the MEd and stand-alone option are offered 100% online.

Professional Administrative License (ProAL)

The ProAL is designed for current administrators who desire to continue their administrative licensure and career as a school or district administrator. The ProAL must be earned before the Principal License expires. Typically, only those with a ProAL can apply for superintendent level positions, but there are some exceptions.

The ProAL can be earned as a stand-alone license past the master's degree or as part of the doctoral program. Classes can be taken online or via hybrid courses as scheduled. Hybrid courses are offered primarily online with students attending one Saturday session per term.
