Change Lives with a Career in Counseling

George Fox University’s counseling programs are designed to encourage the personal and professional growth of students. Our goal is to promote the relational, psychological, physical and spiritual wholeness of individuals, couples, families, organizations and communities. We achieve this by giving our students relevant experience through the classroom as well as field work, providing them with many opportunities both on and off-campus.

Our counseling degree programs include:

  • Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MA)
  • Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling (MA or Certificate)
  • School Counseling (MA or Certificate)
  • School Psychology (EdS or Certificate)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Trauma Response Services

About Our Programs

Our counseling degree programs offer rigorous academic and clinical training, providing students a well-balanced experience that prepares them for a successful career.

Choose from two-, three-, and four-year program formats as well as convenient learning sites in Portland and Salem. Our flexible class schedules are perfect for working adults, and our full-time faculty is always accessible to ensure your success as a student.

Faith Integration

In addition to providing students with exceptional learning and practical training, the Graduate School of Counseling is committed to integrating Christian faith into learning and helping our students grow through their experiences.

Not all of our students are Christians, but our counseling graduates should be able to articulate the integration of their faith with their identity and practice as mental health professionals.

Accreditation

Our counseling degree programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and provide the opportunity for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. The school psychology program is also approved by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) of the state of Oregon as well as the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Play Therapy and Trauma Response

We are also home of the Northwest Center for Play Therapy Studies, the only university-based center focused on the study and promotion of play therapy in the northwest United States, the Trauma Response Institute, which sponsors training, research and service activities in support of communities facing traumatic events, and the Individual & Family Matters Clinic, a nonprofit educational and counseling clinic offering the highest quality of therapeutic services to families, couples, individuals and groups.
