Dr. Kurtley Knight joins
the faculty of Portland Seminary as
Assistant Professor of Spiritual Formation

Portland Seminary is pleased to announce Dr. Kurtley Knight as assistant professor of Spiritual Formation, position beginning August 15, 2020. 


Dr. Knight is presently a Diaconate in the Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others (Anglican Church  of North America). He completed his Doctor of Ministry at Portland Seminary, and his dissertation is titled, “Theocentric Vision: A Model for the Discernment of Congregational Vision as Spiritual Formation” (2016). Dr. Knight has over a decade of congregational ministry experience, as both a church planter and lead pastor. He is presently a Senior Teaching Fellow for the Renovare Institute and since 2017, he has taught at Portland Seminary as both D.Min Faculty Advisor and faculty for spiritual formation courses. 


Dr. MaryKate Morse, incoming Dean of the Seminary says, “For several years I have worked closely with Dr. Knight as a project faculty in the Leadership & Spiritual Formation DMIN program, so I am thrilled that he is joining the faculty full-time. His expertise in spiritual formation and his wealth of pastoral experiences will help us further develop the seminary’s passion to spiritually form Christ-like influencers. He is also an incredibly warm, authentic human being, who is a friend to everyone he meets.”


Regarding this new position, Dr. Knight states, “I am elated to be joining the full-time faculty of my alma mater, Portland Seminary. I look forward to curating sacred spaces for our students, so that they can be equipped and spiritually formed for vocational ministry.”


Dr. Knight will be teaching classes in both spiritual formation and pastoral theology. As all of our programs have a deep commitment to formation, we look forward to Dr. Knight’s impact on the continued emphasis on practices that will nurture spirituality in our students.
