Preparation of Artwork for Exhibition
Oil, mixed media, and acrylic paintings should be framed without glass. If the painting is canvas on board, use a wood or metal frame. If the painting is canvas on stretcher bars, construct a frame using thin strips of wood nailed to the stretcher bars with small finishing nails.
Drawings, watercolors, and collages should be matted using a hinged mat. To protect the matted piece, cover it with acetate or plexiglass and tape the mat to the covering. Plexiglass can also be affixed with fastening devices designed for such a purpose and available at art supply stores or frame galleries. For matted artwork with wood or metal frames, use plexiglass instead of glass for shipping purposes.
