Freedom’s Dark Mask
My daughter, Krystal, and I had a delightful theological conversation the other night. We talked about human freedom in light of Dostoevsky’s The Grand Inquisitor. The Grand Inquisitor is a story about Christ’s return to earth (to Seville) during the Inquisition. Not to be confused with the glorious Second Coming at the end of time, this was a momentary visit in which Jesus chose to appear “where the fires were crackling under the heretics.” He came quietly, as he had 15 centuries before. The Ultimate Road Trip – May 4-11, 2011
Alumni Relations is hitting the road to bring a piece of George Fox University to you! The first-ever Ultimate Road Trip leave Newberg on May 4, 2011, and concludes in San Francisco with a Giants game on May 10. It’s your change to come together with other alumni, parents, and friends of George Fox who live along the route. You will even be able to follow along as our roadies keep a travel blog of their adventures. We need you to help design the route! Which towns should our roadies visit? Central Oregon Paddle & Putt - June 25-26, 2011
Alumni, parents, and friends are invited to take on the whitewater of the Deschutes River on Saturday and the challenging greens of Juniper Golf Course followed by an hors d’oeuvres reception on Sunday. Mariners Game – July 16

When I finished seminary, I wanted to pastor but couldn’t get a call. I went on to do doctoral work and then again felt a clear pull to the church. In 1997, Tom Davis rushed into a Russian orphanage bearing life-changing news for a little girl named Anya. He was in the country on a missions trip with high schoolers, and he and his wife had waded through the adoption process. By the grace of God, it was finally finished, and he was about to surprise Anya with the news. Davis expected to overflow with joy, but instead, something happened that broke his heart. More...
