Over the past few years it has become an annual rite of spring. As trees and flowers on campus begin to emerge from their winter slumber, the university community gathers to celebrate, watch, and cheer for our women’s basketball team as it makes another deep run in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Students, staff, alumni, parents and members of the broader community come together in large lecture halls or the campus dining room to watch live video feeds, and alumni all around the world sit near their computers to watch or listen as the Bruins take on the nation’s best. After graduation from Fox in 2003, I knew I needed to get back on campus and give in some way. Beauty in Differences

Different ethnicities. Different denominations. Different voices. I am constantly reminded of celebrating differences rather than being colorblind. Instead of thinking that we are all the same, I see color in all its beauty, God’s beauty.

George Fox sends 70-plus students on Spring Serve trips
More than 70 students and employees from George Fox University will spend their weeklong spring break serving others during the university’s annual Spring Serve. During the week of March 20-27, students will travel to Yakima, Seattle, and Neah Bay, Wash., as well as Los Angeles, to work on service projects in various cross-cultural settings. Alumna Darlene Ortega Honored
Her work to promote minorities in the legal profession earned the Honorable Darlene Ortega, a judge on the Oregon Court of Appeals since 2003, recognition from the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation this spring. Ortega, a 1984 graduate of George Fox University and 1989 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, was presented the 19th annual Judge Mercedes Deiz Award at the OWL Foundation’s 2011 Robert Deiz Awards Dinner on Friday, March 11, at the Governor Hotel in Portland. Doctor of Physical Therapy
Starting in the fall of 2012, George Fox University will introduce a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program to its academic offerings. The DPT program will emphasize a problem-solving, evidence-based approach to learning and integrate clinical research into the practice of physical therapy. We are the only Christian university in the Pacific Northwest with a physical therapy program. Click here to read more.
Homecoming Moves to the Fall
Save the dates October 7-9 as Homecoming returns to the Fall! You don’t want to miss the launch of this re-imagined George Fox tradition. This weekend of celebration will include the first-ever Homecoming Gala, an outdoor tailgate party, redesigned class reunions, and so much more! Class reunions will take place for the classes of 2001, 1991, 1986, 1981, 1971, and 1951, while affinity reunions will be head for all biology and chemistry alumni and everyone that participated in University Players. Central Oregon Fox Film Festival Special Screening – Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m.
Join us at the George Fox University Redmond Center for an evening of short student films! Combining the liberal arts emphasis of communication arts with hands-on experience in video, film, and digital media production, Cinema and Media Communications (CMCO) at George Fox is one of the fastest growing undergraduate majors. Hear about this vibrant program from professor Matt Meyer and watch student films that will inspire you in a special screening for alumni, parents and friends of George Fox. Blazers Game – Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m.
March 22nd is the LAST DAY to purchase tickets to go to the Blazers game with our group on April 12th. Come watch the Blazers take on the Memphis Grizzlies in their final home game of the season! Join other alumni as well as current and future Bruins as we cheer the hometown team on to victory. The discounted group tickets are $20 each and there are a limited number of tickets available. The Ultimate Road Trip – May 4-11, 2011
Alumni Relations is hitting the road to bring a piece of George Fox University to you! The first-ever Ultimate Road Trip leave Newberg on May 4, 2011, and concludes in San Francisco with a Giants game on May 10. It’s your change to come together with other alumni, parents, and friends of George Fox who live along the route. You will even be able to follow along as our roadies keep a travel blog of their adventures. We need you to help design the route! Which towns should our roadies visit? Golf Tournament – July 14
Join fellow golfers for the annual George Fox golf tournament at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore. We are seeking sponsors and players for the tournament, which supports student scholarships and the Bruin Athletic Association. Many sponsorship levels are available. Mariners Game – July 16

Introducing Alumni Adventures!
Whether it be traveling through Europe, backpacking the Sisters Mountains, or rafting down the Deschutes, you won’t want to miss the next Alumni Adventure! June 25-26 you can join us for the first Alumni Adventure--The Central Oregon Paddle & Putt. Alumni, parents, and friends are invited to take on the whitewater of the Deschutes River on Saturday and the challenging greens of Juniper Golf Course followed by an hors d’oeuvres reception on Sunday. Open Board Positions
The Alumni Board is currently seeking applications or nominations for positions representing alumni from the pre-1970s, 2000s, and the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences program. Service on the alumni board is a valuable way to give back to and stay connected with the George Fox community.
