Be Known... On a Road Trip
By Robby Larson, Director of Alumni Relations
Just over a week from now, I am hopping in a car and driving to San Francisco for the Ultimate Road Trip. Why? It’s part of my job. Not the driving, mind you, but the underlying purpose. I am making the journey so that I can connect with alumni of George Fox. You see, the core function of my job is to develop and foster relationships between our graduates and their alma mater. But, too often these relationships exist over significant physical distance, resulting in a lack of personal connection. At George Fox, however, we like to use the phrase “Be Known.” And I believe this idea doesn’t stop when you graduate! More…

A Senior Business Class That Gets Real
By Dirk Barram
In the fall of 2004, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with our senior business majors, many of whom had seemingly already checked out of college. These were not the same junior business majors who regularly came to class with enthusiasm and anticipation. As the primary faculty member for Business Strategy, the final class that senior business majors take, I was ready to try a new approach. I had heard about some colleges requiring business students to start their own businesses. More...
From the Alumni Board
By Margaret Drahn
It has been an honor and an exciting privilege to serve as a representative for the ’60s decade on the George Fox Alumni Board. I am a member of the class of 1965, a class that has enjoyed a special closeness, as we gather every summer for reunions. As I come to the end of my last term, I look back to many great memories. It was a thrill to introduce Hal and Nancy Thomas for an award at homecoming several years ago, select recipients for scholarships and to speak on behalf of the alumni board at the Redmond graduation more recently. George Fox send students on study abroad trips this spring
More than 200 George Fox University students will embark on international study trips to Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and New Zealand in May. The college study abroad tours are part of the university’s Juniors Abroad program. Since 1987, the program has sent third- and fourth-year students on three-week overseas study trips led by professors. Excursions have reached every continent except Antarctica. George Fox pays transportation and program costs; students pay room and board. Each trip holds preparation classes during the spring semester. George Fox shows support to Japan earthquake victims
What can be done to encourage the people of Japan? George Fox University’s Trauma Response Institute is offering a simple but powerful way to do so. In wake of the March 11 Magnitude 9.0 earthquake, hundreds of aftershocks and subsequent tsunamis that have devastated the country, the institute is organizing a “Notes of Encouragement” campaign to reach out to the Japanese people. Many of the university’s staff and students plan to participate, and the general community is welcome to join the effort, according to TRI Director Anna Berardi. Click here to find out more and learn how you can get involved in this effort to express our care for Japan.
George Fox adds new degree program: Educational Specialist
Oregon educators seeking to extend themselves into teacher-leader roles in their school districts are encouraged to apply for a new education degree program, the Educational Specialist degree, now offered through George Fox University’s School of Education. The degree is terminal beyond a master’s degree but is distinct from a doctorate in that it is more of a practitioner’s degree, emphasizing the application of research and the improvement of educational practices and outcomes. Arthur Roberts speaks at commencement
A man whose legacy at George Fox spans more than five decades will speak at this year's spring undergraduate commencement ceremony. Arthur O. Roberts – a Quaker scholar, historian, professor, songwriter, minister, small-town mayor, poet, author and 1944 graduate of then-Pacific College – will speak. Among other accomplishments, he helped George Fox establish academic credibility and was instrumental in selecting its current name. His position now is professor at large – a fitting title considering his larger-than-life impact on the university. Click here to read more.
Just Moms features several GFU alumni
