Imagine enjoying a meal as you take in the sights of towering trees and a lush green canyon. Beginning this fall, you won’t have to imagine it – the scene will be a reality with the completion of the Canyon Commons dining hall at George Fox University.
The new 30,000-square-foot facility, opened in the fall of 2016, features large windows overlooking Hess Creek Canyon, known for its local flora and peaceful walking trails. Inside, wooden-beam construction and expansive skylights designed to emulate the pattern of light shining through tree branches will pay homage to and fully utilize the facility’s scenic surroundings.
Construction was done so the building would fit seamlessly into its surroundings while disturbing as little of the site’s natural beauty as possible. The entire space will seat 900 and include a main dining area, smaller meeting spaces and a cafe.
