Portland Writing Center

What We Do

The Portland Writing Center offers one-on-one writing assistance free of charge to GFU graduate and Department of Professional Studies students. We are not an editing service. Instead, our consultants are trained to empower adult students to become better writers by learning the tools necessary to self-critique and self-edit. We offer assistance in many areas, including initial brainstorming, organization, clarity, grammar, word choice, and APA, Turabian, and MLA formatting. Consultations are typically 60 minutes long, although we are happy to vary that time depending on the scope of a project. We also welcome brief grammar or formatting questions via email or video conference. At the PWC, you have the choice of a face-to-face, Zoom video conference, or email consultation:

  • For a face-to-face appointment, (1) click the PWC Google calendar link below to schedule an appointment, (2) email the Writing Center consultants at wc@georgefox.edu with the information listed below under “To Schedule an Appointment,” and (3) on the day of your appointment, go to the Portland Writing Center, located inside the Portland Center Library on the first floor of GFU’s Portland Center, 12753 SW 68th Ave., Portland.

While it is not necessary to be available during your scheduled appointment, we ask that you reserve an appointment to ensure that a consultant has time reserved to review your work before your assignment is due.
