Parents
Family is an important part of each person's career journey. We are glad you are here to check out the opportunities and resources available to you as a parent of a George Fox University student. Welcome, and please let us know how we can be helpful to you and your student.
Career Services: Partnering with Parents . . .
Parents as Promoters
- If your son or daughter is asking questions about deciding on a major, finding internships, looking for employment, wanting to attend graduate school, or finding God's will and purpose for their lives, send them to Career Services. We can help!
- Encourage your student to take part in career events.
- Ask questions/check in occasionally with regard to their future planning.
- Ask about the results of any career testing they've done.
- Family weekend BYOS open house; bring your own student.
- Read and write for Parent Perspectives, Career Corner
- Promote Career Services by using our website (especially the event calendars)
- Assist with promotion by writing letters.
Parents as Service Providers
- Parents' workshop at family weekend; parents as career advisors
- Post internship and job listings on JobConnect
- Participate as a professional in various career events such as professional preview day, practice interview day, etiquette dinner
- Register to be a resource for our students in the JobConnect Professional Network. Students can use you as a contact to talk about career- related questions. This is a great avenue for our students to connect with professionals in their field (e.g. networking, mentoring, panels, informational interviews, job shadowing, faculty connections).
Parent's Council
This committee functions to offer prayer and encouragement, to assist with the flow of information to other parents and students, to offer ideas and consultation, to work on action items which enhance the vision and operations of the Career Services Office at George Fox University. Contact Parent Relations at 503-554-2114.
