Friendsview GFU IT Services

The Friendsview Retirement Community is now included in the GFU campus network.

George Fox University, GFU, has a close relationship with Friendsview retirement community which is located adjacent to the campus. They share the common foundation of Quaker heritage and have partnered with each other on various social and service oriented projects. With the launch of the new nursing program at GFU there was a need for network connectivity for classroom and clinical activity taking place at Friendsview. This came at a time when Friendsview was exploring options for improving Internet service and online medical record access for their residents. The common activity opened the door for more direct collaboration for GFU to supply the Internet needs for the Friendsview community. Friendsview Sign

Providing only a network connection could have been the extent of the collaboration. However, it became immediately clear that there was an opportunity for a closer IT support relationship with Friendsview. So began the technical support relationship that involves bringing Friendsview residents onto the GFU network via a high speed point to point wireless signal. Residents are connected to the network only after their computer systems have gone through a complete health checkup.

The initial phase of the project provided connections in the main buildings via existing wiring as well as through wireless options. The Meadow Way homes and Cherry Street condominiums will be connected via WiFi array by early summer of 2007.
