First thing is to see if the wireless card is being detected by the computer. One easy way to do this is to move the mouse over the icons on the start bar on the right of the screen. Holding the mouse over the small icons for a few moments will make text pop up describing what they are. One of these description's should say Wireless Network Connection. If not, then perhaps the wireless card on your computer is not turned on. On the Compaq Evo n610c, the wireless card can be turned on and off by pushing Function and F2 at the same time.
