Faculty are at the heart of what the university does, and IT is committed to supporting the technology needs of our faculty. Look below for information on getting to and using technology to enhance your teaching at GFU.

Online Resources

  • Campfire (Text Chat):  Used for group discussion for classes and administrative meetings.
  • Campus Network: Network information and how to get connected whether you are on one of our campuses or connecting while off-campus.
  • Class Schedule:  Online class schedule at a glance.
  • Classroom Response System:  Poll Everywhere's ResponseWare - Internet and SMS based "clicker" system.
  • Communication Systems:  Information on scheduling and using web conferencing (iVocalize), text chat (Campfire), live streaming (QuickTime Broadcaster), and video conferencing (Polycom).
  • Embedded Librarian Program: Faculty may request that a librarian be embedded in their Foxtale course site(s) to facilitate the student's research process.
  • E-nnouncements: Quasi daily announcements delivered straight to your inbox.
  • Faculty Technology Mentoring: GFU's program for introducing technology into curriculum.
  • FoxFiles: How to access your personal file storage via the Web, and more.
  • FoxTALE: GFU's system for presenting course-related materials online.
  • Google Apps for George Fox:  Provides you with tools for sharing information and ideas with others.   
  • iGFU: Currently the IT Administrative Computing is working on creating a mobile device friendly web portal to bring your George Fox experience to you.
  • iTunesU: Access Podcasts from GFU iTunes University site.
  • iVocalize (Web Conferencing): works well for groups that meet online at a specific time for a short duration (usually no more than 120 minutes). 
  • Mail (Google E-Mail): Everything you need to know about our email system. Includes information on options for sending mass/group emails.
  • Moodle Community: Moodle (FoxTALE) system for public projects that include participants beyond GFU students and employees.
  • MyGFU (PeopleSoft): Access to class rosters, advisee lists, academic advisement reports, and grade submission.
  • Text Chat (Campfire):  Used for group discussion for classes and administrative meetings.
  • Virus Help: Gives information on how to determine whether you have a virus and what to do about it. Has download available of Norton Antivirus (for those currently enrolled/employed at GFU) and a few other virus prevention programs.
  • Web Conferencing (iVocalize):  works well for groups that meet online at a specific time for a short duration (usually no more than 120 minutes).  
  • Wireless Student Printing - A wireless printing system for students.

Campus Resources

  • Computer Labs: George Fox has several different computer labs for both students and faculty to increase their knowledge of and access to the computers that they need to complete projects, work, or just checking your email depending on which lab you are in.
  • IT Service Desk: The service desk is here to serve the George Fox community by answering technical questions, troubleshooting computer problems, and repairing problematic systems.

Software

  • Current Software Package: A list of the software that is available to you as faculty.
  • Downloadable Software: A list of links (both local and on the Internet) to current software in use at GFU. Note: Some local links require a GFU login - use your MyGFU username and password when prompted.
  • Deskside Coaching: Get an hour of one-on-one help with software from an IT professional.
