Spiritual Life Theme 2012-13 – Origins
The book of Genesis opens with the dramatic and Divine account of Creation. From the creation of land and sea, to the handiwork of bones and blood, God is intimately breathing life into the existence of the cosmos and humanity. This ancient story of the origins of humanity,our planet and of our faith roots each of us in the Big Story of God. As we read the stories of Genesis, we find followers of God who we can identify with thousands of years later. We learn of deceivers and truth-tellers, lovers and haters, believers and doubters. There is not a one of us who cannot find a connection with the family of God who has gone before us.
This year's theme of Origins takes us back to the origin of the Christian faith and also takes us to the origin of who we are individually and personally. We come from God. We belong to God. The roots of our identity plant us deeply in the heart of God. As we learn from the opening scenes of faith, God's promises, love, and desire for holiness plays out then and today.
God is still creating and still breathing life into dried-up bones. As we journey together on Mondays through book of Genesis, we will be encountering the questions vital to our faith about our identity and belonging.
