Fall 2010 Family/Guest Schedule

George Fox University offers a special series of activities and presentations specifically for families and guests. We encourage you to attend as much of Family Orientation as possible in order to help support your student as well as yourself in this time of transition.

Thursday, August 26

 8 am - 3 pm
 Parent Hospitality Tent, Quad
8 a.m.
Help your student move into the Residence Halls

Check in at Residence Halls while student leaders unload your car and help your student move in.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Community Fair - Quad

See what Newberg has to offer. There will be representation from banks and other businesses in the area.

3 – 4 p.m.
Multi-Cultural Reception

Join underrepresented students and alumni for a special reception.

4:30 p.m.
Welcome Dinner - Klages Dining Hall
Meal is free for incoming students.  There is a $5 fee for families and guests.  Children under 4 eat for free.
6 – 7 p.m.
Official Welcome to the Community - Gymnasium

Join the president, ASC president, University Worship Band, the orientation staff and others for your official welcome to George Fox University 

7 – 8 p.m.
Parent Orientation - Bauman Auditorium

Hear from the parent relations office about what it means to be a George
Fox parent. 

8 – 9 p.m.
Parent Reception - Stevens Center Atrium

Enjoy a dessert reception with the school administration, faculty, staff and other parents. RSVP online. 

11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Late Night at Newberg Fred Meyer
Exclusively for GFU students, Fred Meyer has opened its doors for you. Save some money and stick around for free grub, giveaways and live music. 

Friday, August 27

8 – 9 a.m.
Breakfast with the President - Cap and Gown Room - Student Union Building
Come spend a nice morning getting to know President Baker and other administrators. Tickets required, RSVP online.
9 – 10 a.m.
Be Known Intellectually While at Fox - Bauman Auditorium

Hear from Provost Patrick Allen and learn what it means to “Be Known Intellectually” while at Fox.

10 – 11 a.m.
Parent Session - Bauman Auditorium

While students attend their first official class at George Fox, come hear from other parents about their experience as a George Fox parent.

11 a.m. – Noon
Department Open House/Library Tours

Visit with the faculty and staff of your future GFU academic department, take a tour of the Library.

 11 am - 1 pm

2 – 2:45 p.m.
Financial Literacy - Bauman Auditorium

Learn about ways to be financially sound throughout your college years
and beyond.

2:45 – 3:30 p.m.
Textbooks 101 - Bauman Auditorium

Learn how and where to purchase your textbooks as well as how the Bruin Bookstore is working to keep the high textbook costs down for you.

3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Prayer Dedication Service - Centenneial Clocktower Lawn
Families and students are invited to gather together for a prayer dedication service led by campus pastor Sarah Baldwin. Afterwards, families say goodbye to their students.
