Dr. Johnson joined the George Fox University School of Education in 1999 as a adjunct MAT supervisor. In 2001 he developed Project Access and Equity to help the School of Education faculty comply with the Minority Teacher Act of 1991 and to connect the university with Portland area cultural and ethnic communities to recruit, admit and prepare teacher, counselor and administrative candidates to serve in the schools of Oregon.

Lionel Johnson came to George Fox University in 1999 after having spent 38 years in public education in Los Angeles, California and Portland, Oregon. Lionel was a K-8 and ESL teacher for 21 years, administrative assistant and curriculum coordinator for 4 years, central office administrator coordinating Project Return, and the Homeless, the Alcohol and Drug, and the District-wide Alternative Education programs for 6 years and was a supervisor of the district Head Start Program for 7 years.
