EDFL Programs at a Glance

George Fox University EDFL StudentsThe Master of Education (MEd) Program at George Fox will equip you with the personal and professional tools needed to teach and lead in the 21st century. MEd students choose from seven areas of specialization:

Curriculum & Instruction
Prepares you to create new avenues of learning for students and sharpens your teaching skills as well.

Educational Leadership
Prepares you to lead as a school administrator. Completion of the course work, an administrative practicum at both the elementary and secondary levels, and passing the state licensure exam for administrators allows you to earn the Oregon Initial Administrator License.

Higher Education
Prepares you to work in the world of higher learning, giving you a solid foundation for service in the areas of student life, admissions, enrollment management, financial aid, and institutional advancement

Library Media
Prepares you for professional endorsement in library media and equips you with expertise in planning and managing printed and electronic educational media, and helping students to use them.

Literacy
Prepares you to enhance and improve reading instruction at the classroom level. This specialization includes many of the same courses as the reading endorsement, without the emphasis on diagnosing reading difficulties.

Reading
Prepares you for professional endorsement in reading and equips you for specialized work in diagnosing reading difficulties, creating school-wide reading programs, and improving reading instruction in the classroom.

Secondary Education
Prepares you to enhance and improve content instruction at the secondary classroom level and allows you to earn an advanced license in your endorsement area.

The Alternative Pathways to Licensure Program is designed to serve the unique needs of those educators who seek to obtain an Oregon Initial Teaching License who have sufficient previous preparation and experience to make participation in a complete pre-service preparation program unnecessary. The program also meets the needs of licensed teachers who desire to add an endorsement or authorization to their current license.

The Initial Teaching License in Library Media Program (Option 3) includes educational media and teacher education courses and practicum/student teaching experience in the library media center. This license will enable you to be a K-12 library media specialist, but not a multi-subject elementary classroom teacher or secondary content classroom teacher.

The Oregon Administrative Licensure Program offers candidates the opportunity to earn appropriate licenses that prepare educators to serve in Oregon public schools as K-12 building or district-level administrators.

The Initial Administrator License can be earned:

  • As a specialization in the Master of Education degree
  • As a stand-alone license beyond the master’s degree
  • As part of the Doctor of Education degree

The Continuing Administrator License can be earned:

  • As stand-alone licenses beyond the master’s degree
  • As part of the doctoral program

The Doctor of Education (EdD) Program completes your studies with a program that will give you expert guidance and comprehensive knowledge in the context of the Christian faith, its values, and worldview. You will finish the EdD with the personal and professional tools needed to teach and lead in the schools and colleges of the 21st century: excellent skills, vision, and the highest ethical example.
