MAT Admissions

We are seeking teacher candidates who are dedicated and focused, open to multiple viewpoints, enthusiastic about learning, able to negotiate systems, and excellent at communicating. For students seeking admission to the MAT program, requirements are as follows:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0 in the last two years of course work
  • Passing scores on the CBEST or Praxis PPST
  • Interview by the admission committee
  • Previous experience working with children or adolescents

Application deadlines

  • Feb. 1 for the Full-time format
  • June 1 for the MAT at Night format
  • Oct. 1 for the MAT in Your Community format

Although applications are still reviewed after these dates on a space-available basis, our programs typically fill up. We encourage you to apply early. Your application needs to include the following:

  • Completed application form (online or download) with $40 nonrefundable fee
  • Three professional references (forms provided in application packet)
  • Personal essay (described in application packet)
  • Official transcripts from each college attended
  • Résumé
  • Preference given to those with passing ORELA or Praxis II subject specialty exam score report
