Built in 1885, Minthorn Hall is the oldest and only first-generation building left on campus. Minthorn Hall will house the George Fox Honors Program and will include two classrooms that will be used by other academic units. Minthorn will be renovated over the 2025-2026 academic year.
Minthorn was originally built as a dormitory for Friends Pacific Academy, the predecessor of George Fox University. Former U.S. President Herbert Hoover attended the academy as a young boy, and it’s believed he may have lived in the dorm during this time.
In 1892, the hall was moved 10 blocks to its current location, accomplished by rolling the building on logs behind horses. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is named for the Minthorn (also spelled "Minthorne") family, multiple members of which have attended and served the university. In 2019, alumnus Roger Minthorne passed away after serving 45 years as a George Fox board member. He was named one of 125 people who have shaped the university at the university sesquicentennial
