BELIEVE - ACHIEVE - SUCCEEDApplication Deadline: October 2 by 5 p.m. Bachelor of Science Major in NursingEarning a bachelor's degree from George Fox University takes four years. Students take general education and nursing prerequisite courses their first two years at the university. Those interested in the nursing major must apply and be accepted into the program. Once admitted, it will take five semesters to complete the nursing major. The curriculum will prepare students to become professional registered nurses and include the following essential components for all baccalaureate nursing programs, as outlined in The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education For Professional Nursing Practice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing 1998): a liberal education, professional values, core competencies, core knowledge, and role development. Classes will be taught on the Newberg campus. Clinical experiences will be offered at a variety of off-campus settings, including community hospitals, home-care and extended-care facilities, service agencies, and schools. Students accepted into the nursing major should expect and plan that they will be required to travel to clinical experiences in and out of Newberg; given this fact it will be necessary for ALL students to make transportation arrangements for all assigned clinical experiences. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN state licensing exam. Program AccreditationThe nursing major at George Fox University has been granted full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), which is of the more than 50 educational accrediting agencies that serve the public interest by providing an unbiased assessment of the quality of professional education programs. CCNE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to accredit baccalaureate and graduate degree programs in nursing. As a specialized/professional accrediting agency, CCNE is designed to evaluate and make judgments about the quality of baccalaureate and graduate degree programs in nursing that are located in regionally accredited colleges and universities in the United States and its territories. A determination of accreditation by CCNE is an indication of confidence in the educational institution to offer a program of quality, deserving of public approbation. |
