External Scholarship Information


External scholarships must be counted as part of your total financial aid award. These can be reported to your financial aid counselor through MyGFU.

There are many scholarship opportunities for students from sources outside George Fox University. Students can locate scholarships through online searches. Students should never pay a fee in order to apply for a scholarship.

George Fox Scholarship Manager

Scholarship Manager is George Fox's site for returning traditional undergraduate students to apply for donor funded scholarships.  This process will allow you to be matched for all available donor scholarships based on the donors' criteria.

The application is available via student’s MyGFU portal December through January each academic year.


Freshman Donor Funded Scholarships

Incoming Freshmen are invited to apply for the following donor funded scholarships. 

Ken & Joan Austin: To award an outstanding achievement, first year student attending George Fox, from Newberg, Yamhill County or home state of Oregon.

Marvin & LaVelle Priebe Barger Scholarship : To assist a first year freshman students at George Fox from Oregon or Washington.

Kristine Dicus Memorial Award: To assist first year freshman Protestant students at George Fox,  whose major is music.

Minthorne Family Grant: To assist first year freshman students at George Fox who are children of Friends ministers or missionaries.

Nard and Sis McGrath Scholarship:  To assist and encourage first year freshman at George Fox who graduated from Newberg H.S. 

Arthur & Fern Roberts Scholarship: To assist and encourage first year Quaker freshman students to attend George Fox.

Dwight and Marie Macy Family Scholarship: To assist first year students attending George Fox, who graduated from Madras or Culver HS.

Application Deadline: The application for 2016-2017 is now closed.


Juan Young Trust Scholarship

Juan Young was a former officer and then president of Kienow’s Food Stores.  Upon his death, a trust fund was established to provide money for college scholarships for Oregon residents. The application process begins each winter through the universities Donor-Funded Scholarship Competition which is available via student’s MyGFU portal January through February each academic year.

Preference is first given to lineal descendants of former Kienow’s employees.  If no applicants meet this criteria, the scholarship will be open to other candidates who fit the following qualifications:

Students must be an Oregon resident.

Students must be 21 years of age or less at time of application. 

Application Deadline: The application for 2016-2017 is now closed.


Miller BEST Achievement Scholarship

The Miller BEST Achievement Award, which is funded through the James and Lila Miller Charitable Trust, was established in 2013 by their sons Ted and Paul Miller. The scholarship was created in honor of their parents, Jim and Lila Miller, to reward extraordinary students whose commitment to excellence in their chosen field of academic study is also reflected in their career plans and goals. 

The Miller BEST (Business, Engineering, Science and Technology) Achievement Awards are for currently enrolled undergraduate George Fox students. The application is available as part of the Donor Funded Scholarship Manager application process each year in December.
