Meet the Career Coaches

Elise
Elise Gibson Career Coach | 503-554-2331

Born and raised in Southern California, Elise decided to take a break from the sun and move to Hillsboro, OR after earning her Masters in College Counseling and Student Development at Azusa Pacific University. She is now the head Career Coach in the IDEA Center. What makes her day is the moment when a student realizes their calling, or a direction that resonates with them. She believes that a career consists of chapters, and in her next chapter, she wants to explore work as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and a Psychologist. While her 3 kiddos keep her constantly looking for areas to explore with her family, she also loves settling down by a warm fire with a nice book or puzzle.

Justin
Justin McCoy Assistant Career Coach | 503-554-2332

From San Diego, to Indiana, to Illinois, to Michigan, and finally to Newberg, Justin has been all over the United States throughout his young and budding life. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling here at George Fox University. Using this degree, he plans to work with college students through either mental health counseling or student development administration. He loves getting to know a wide variety of students and helping them find a good fit for their unique passions and abilities—it’s easy to see why he fits in so well here at the IDEA Center as an Assistant Career Coach! His hobbies include sailing (sometimes to school in the rainy months), shredding on the guitar, and going to the dog park with his cat, Davy.

Rory
Rory Phillips Skills Extraction Intern

While wrestling for years with what he wanted to do in life, Rory is back at George Fox University for the third time and is here to stay. Third time’s a charm! He is planning on majoring in English with a minor in Cinema and Media Communication, which translates well to his ultimate career goal of becoming a screenwriter. If that doesn’t pan out, he will pursue his passion as a film critic, and if that doesn’t work out, he says he would pursue a career in professional writing. Rory loves watching films, composing stories near an open sunlit window, going out for walks or hikes (often times inconveniently in the middle of busy streets), and practicing his ear for dad jokes... he’s always on the prowl for a good pun. As a Skills Extraction Intern in the IDEA Center, he is very humbled to see how his past has come back around, and is grateful for the opportunity to give back to other students.
