Conflicting Google Account

Now that Google is making Google Apps accounts more like regular Google accounts, the regular Google account you created with your George Fox email address will need to be transitioned. These two unique accounts are referred to as conflicting accounts. This graphic shows how the two accounts are conflicting based on the account names (email addresses) being identical.

Google Apps Conflicting Accounts

Because the two accounts cannot share the email address, the personal account with the @georgefox.edu address will need to be updated to use a different email address.

How do I update my personal Google account to use a different email address?

If you don't have a different email address where you can receive mail, you can resolve the conflict by renaming your account to an @gmail.com address instead.

Step 1: Visit www.google.com/accounts and sign in with your personal Google Account

Step 2: Click "Change email" under "Personal Settings"

Step 3: Enter a different email address where you can receive mail, enter your password, and click "Save email address"

Step 4: Check your other email address and click the link in the verification message from Google to confirm your change

Will I lose my personal Google account? Will the data on that account be deleted?

If you have a conflicting account, your personal Google account will not be deleted, and your data will continue to reside on that account.
