Greetings from the Executive Director…
My daughter, Chelsea, and her husband have three little boys under the ages of 5. That’s right! They’re 4 ½, 3, and 6 months old, and these parents have their hands full! It is a joyous, demanding job and I couldn’t be more proud of how they are parenting these little ones. The other day, Chelsea and I were talking about the big goal of parenting – what she wants for her children at the end of the day. More... From the Career Services...
Many of our students rely on parents and relatives as a dependable source (partner) for help in making career decisions. One recently told me his father knew him better than he himself did and so could credibly recommend suitable career directions. Not surprising, but what exactly is that role in this very important aspect of development? Many parents and relatives serve as career role models... More... From the School of Business Dean...
In the fall of 2004, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with our senior business majors, many of whom had seemingly already checked out of college. These were not the same junior business majors who regularly came to class with enthusiasm and anticipation. As the primary faculty member for Business Strategy, the final class that senior business majors take, I was ready to try a new approach. More... From Parent Council… Every month I enjoy receiving in my in-box the monthly Parents Perspectives newsletter from George Fox. It is another “link” to the goings-on in my students’ lives (yes, I have more than one). I check out the latest calendars to know what will be shared in chapel, how our sports teams are doing, and what reminders need to be on my personal calendar. I love to hear from the administration – new plans and goals for the university and funny and heartwarming stories about people and events on campus. More... ![]() ANNOUNCEMENTS
The university has updated the web site for parents of George Fox students and we would love for you to visit and provide your feedback! For the first time this year, we will not print the parent handbook you typically receive in the mail. Instead, it will be online in an interactive version and in a download-able PDF format.
Student Financial Services has been hard at work preparing aid packages for the 2011-12 academic year. To date we’ve sent out over a thousand new student award offers. We expect to have financial aid packages ready for returning students in April. Once their award is completed, the student will receive an email notification that it is ready to view online instead of a mailed letter. Please remind your students to be on watch for this email. They can then accept or decline their awards through their MyGFU.georgefox.edu portal. One of the things that can delay an award being prepared for a returning student is if their FAFSA record is chosen for verification. If your student is selected for verification, our office will need to complete this process prior to preparing the aid package for next year. If this is the case, the verification worksheet can be found on our website at: www.georgefox.edu/offices/stu_fin_srv. Look in online forms. With this worksheet, we will need a signed copy of both parent and student 2010 Federal 1040. Also on our website we have a list of outside scholarships that we are aware of. Check here to see if your student might be eligible for one or more of them. Students not planning on returning next year should come to our office to take care of exit loan counseling and matters associated with their student account. As always we want you to know we are here to serve you. Student Accounts and Financial Aid are combined to make up Student Financial Services. Please see below how to contact us. For Student Account related issues such as questions about your account, monthly payment plan etc, please contact: A-K Sandy Cherachanko scherachanko@georgefox.edu 503-554-2237 For Financial Aid issues such as questions about award amounts, verification documents, special circumstances etc, please contact: A-G Chris Schlarbaum cschlarbaum@georgefox.edu 503-554-2234
