From the Executive Director
A month ago, more than 1,400 family members gathered on campus for the university’s annual Family Weekend. Our campus could hardly contain the energy of so many welcomed guests! All of us on campus really enjoyed our time together!
One of the most popular events of the weekend was the faculty lecture overview for the Juniors Abroad program given by the program director, Paul Chamberlain. It quickly became obvious that we should have held this session in our largest lecture hall, as many parents who wanted to hear the presentation were unable to fit into the classroom. Please accept my apology for this. And know that the interest is duly noted! We will provide this overview again at the 2011 Family Weekend because it has such a high impact on our students and their families. In the meantime, please visit the Juniors Abroad Web page for important information about the 2011 trip destinations, information meetings, and registration processes. One of the things that jumps out as significant is the passport due date. All students who expect to travel with the Juniors Abroad program this spring are required to have an updated passport by Jan. 14, 2011. The semester break is an excellent time to get this accomplished.
Another very popular event during Family Weekend is the Bingo night. My deepest gratitude goes out to the Parent Council and the ASC activities committee who partner together and do most of the work behind the scenes to make this event happen (donate prizes, bake cookies, etc). Because of their hard work, over $2,700 was raised this year for the university’s Serve Day restricted budget. It’s a fantastic way for all George Fox parents to support their students.
Speaking of family time, I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and that you will have good, quality time with your student during the semester break. I wish you all the joys and blessings of the Christmas season!
