Recording of Class Sessions
Students may only record a class session if they have obtained the instructor’s explicit prior permission, which may be limited or withdrawn at any time.
To record means to capture, transmit, or process class audio, video, images, or biometric data by any means.
Where approval to record is granted, no recording of a class session may be shared, posted, transmitted, or reproduced outside the enrolled section without the written consent of the instructor and of every student who appears in it. This applies to all recordings, however and by whomever made. This prohibition extends to recordings made under an accommodation.
In cases where an instructor is recording a course/session, the instructor will notify students before recording begins. Such recordings are retained in accordance with the University's records retention schedule and are made available only to students enrolled in the section. Because course enrollment is not directory information, any use that would make a student's enrollment public requires that student's signed release.
Nothing in this policy limits any right or protection conferred by law. A recording submitted in good faith as part of a report to Title IX, Human Resources, or Student Conduct is not itself a violation of this policy.
Recording during an examination or other assessment is a matter of academic integrity and is addressed by the Academic Affairs Office. All other violations of this policy are addressed through the Student Conduct process.
