The Woodcraft

Crafted to serve our community for generations, our chapel altar and the St. John’s Bible display stand are the work of Oregon craftsman and George Fox alumnus, Chris Breithaupt, founder of Work of Our Hands Woodcraft. Operating from a forty-acre homestead in Sisters, Oregon, Breithaupt approaches his craft not merely as a trade, but as a disciplined spiritual vocation dedicated to honoring the Creator.

Breithaupt’s unique background brings a rare blend of rugged utility and hyper-precise innovation to his woodcraft. His early formation included building boats in the remote wilderness of Southeast Alaska, which taught him how wood behaves under pressure. Later, he spent years refining technical precision as a footwear prototype engineer at Nike. Breithaupt beautifully marries this diverse experience with his faith, shaping locally sourced Oregon white oak using traditional, time-honored joinery. These two pieces rely entirely on the strength of the wood rather than modern hardware. Crafted with simplicity, integrity, and enduring strength, this altar and display stand offer a dignified home for our worship and a quiet resting place for the Holy Scriptures.
