University Response to Campus Incident

George Fox University Board of Trustees response

The Executive Committee of the George Fox University Board of Trustees met last night and issued the following statement:

“The George Fox University Board of Trustees strongly condemns the message conveyed by those who attached a picture of presidential candidate Barack Obama to a tree with a reference to the University’s Act Six initiative. Act Six is designed to provide information about George Fox University to urban students of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, to encourage their attendance by providing scholarship support and an environment in which these students will serve as leaders of the University community. The board believes that Act Six, and the students it has brought to the University, plays an important role in advancing the University’s mission to prepare our students to influence the global community in the name of Jesus Christ. The board reaffirms our commitment to Act Six and the wonderful students who participate.

We know that we live in a world where some cannot see the value of all people created in God’s image. We will continue to seek to follow the teachings of Jesus to love one another and to treat others as we would wish to be treated. We believe that as we do so, good will overcome.”
