Beginning in 2008, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Knight Cardiovascular Institute at Oregon Health & Science University, where he worked to characterize the molecular and biochemical basis of inherited heart diseases. Stump has instructed the biochemistry classes as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Chemistry at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore., (2011) and as a teaching assistant in the School of Molecular Biosciences at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., (2004-2006).
