Career Corner

We have just hired a new assistant director. His name is Darren Noble and he comes to us after a solid career at Borders Books and Music where he worked as area marketing manager and community relations coordinator. He also has a background in journalism and youth employment. Darren earned his Bachelors degree in teaching from Boise State University and his Masters in English and American Literature from Oregon State University. Darren is extremely excited to join the career development profession and will serve your students well. His primary areas of expertise and work include job search advising which includes resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and job search strategy. Darren will also assist students looking for internships and will build employer relations for our office. We are as pleased to have him as he is to work for us at George Fox. I hope you can meet him at our BYOS (Bring Your Own Student) event on family weekend.

On Family weekend, the Parent Council Career Committee is sponsoring 2 events for you:
1. Workshop: Parents as Career Advisors, Saturday, Nov. 6, 9-10 am
2. BYOS (Bring Your Own Student): an open house in the career center

As the holidays approach, I look forward to family time. Our family makes a big deal out of preparing for our favorite holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love the theme of thankfulness that wraps itself around the Thanksgiving season, providing numerous opportunities to remember and be thankful for the Lord's abundant blessings. Parents are Invited to the GFU Auxiliary Bazaar Nov. 5 & 6
The George Fox University Auxiliary hosts its annual bazaar on the Newberg campus November 5 from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and 6, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The bazaar features 20 artisans selling their own jewelry, holiday décor, folk art, linens, soaps and clothing. Baked goods, plants and candy are for sale as well. A silent auction will offer donations from local hotels, restaurants and shops to the highest bidders! All proceeds fund George Fox University student scholarships! The bazaar is located in the Ron Gregory Atrium (park in the Hoover Parking Lot.) Please stop by!

Christmas Concerts Scheduled in December
The Performing Arts Department at George Fox University is offering a series of Christmas concerts this December. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. with a pre-concert at 7 p.m. Concerts will include the George Fox University Concert Choir and Chorale and Chehalem Symphony Orchestra. Concerts are being held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at New Hope Community Church, and Friday and Saturday, December 10 and 11, 2004 at George Fox University's Newberg campus in Bauman Auditorium. Tickets, available at the University Store Box Office 503-554-3844 are $10 for adult guests, $6 for seniors, and $2 for all students, college aged and younger. New Hope Community Church is located at 11731 SE Stevens Road, Portland, OR 97266.
