The other day a colleague at George Fox sent me a link for an online interview with Harvard economist Kenneth Rogoff. It is a sobering perspective on current economic realities. As we are all aware, the world’s economic picture has changed significantly in the past year and a half, with the United States in the center of the collapse. According to Rogoff, big changes are on their way! In the interview he predicts a painful four-year journey for Americans as we strive to recover our financial fitness. His predictions include an increase in unemployment and inflation that will necessitate that most of us simplify our lives. More…

The Crazy Wacky World of the College Student Parent

In the interest of full disclosure, my wife and I do not have it "figured out," even though we are second-year-college-student parents. But some of the challenges that we have faced as we have "let go" of our college-age daughter has reminded us that our job (and privilege) of parenting has not ceased even after we moved her into her dorm room. These past few weeks, my wife and I had the opportunity to speak in the evening chapel service held on campus every Thursday at 9 p.m. It is called "Shalom" and typically draws 100 to 150 students for a time of worship, reflection, and teaching from Scripture. I wish you could all join us to see firsthand the deep desire that so many of our students have to know God and make him known. It was such a rich experience as we sang, prayed, and studied the book of Philippians together. I’m always humbled at the privilege of working with George Fox students and seeing lives changed both in and outside the classroom. More…

Worcester Cathedral Choir performs at George Fox, April 6
You are invited to experience an English choral tradition dating back to the 1400s. George Fox University is honored to host the 34 choristers of the Worcester Cathedral Choir as they tour the Pacific Northwest.

An Evensong service will be sung at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium, followed by a concert at 8:15 p.m. Admission is free, but tickets are required. For tickets, please contact Amy Lorenz at 503-554-2134 or

Graduation information for parents of Spring graduates
Graduation information is available online for parents of undergraduate students who will be graduating May 2, 2009.

A favorite event for families of Fox graduates is the First Reunion, held on Friday night, May 1st. This evening includes a program to celebrate our seniors, followed by a Paris themed buffet dinner in the dining room. Families and friends of all traditional graduating seniors are invited to attend. The seniors attend free of charge as guests of the alumni association. Online registration can be found on the commencement web site.

Summer jobs available for George Fox students
Many offices have part– or full–time summer work positions open for undergraduate students who qualify for the work study program.
