Greetings from the Executive Director...

Regardless of which college year this is for your son or daughter (first, last, or somewhere in between), the start of school always represents a new beginning. Your student arrived on campus a little overwhelmed, full of excitement but also (hopefully) refreshed from the summer and ready to dive into a new year. More...
Our New Students

A special message to parents as we welcome our students …
By President Robin Baker

The campus is alive and well with activity as we start the 2010-2011 year. About 665 new students joined us this fall – a number that far exceeded our expectations! This is the 12th time I have welcomed an incoming class to George Fox University and the fourth time as president of the university.  More...

Career Services

What’s New in Career Services?
By Angela J. Doty, Associate Director of Career Services

Like most people, I enjoy new things. When I was a little girl, new shoes were a big deal. We’d barely make it to the car and those new shoes would be on my feet. Sometimes, I would be permitted to wear them out of the store. Either way, once we arrived home, I would dance and parade around in my new shoes, testing out the clip-clop sound on the kitchen floor or their speed as I raced down the hall. My mother drew the line when I would attempt to sleep with them. More...

Thresholds. There are three definitions for threshold in Webster’s dictionary: “the plank, stone, or piece of wood that lies at the bottom of a door, like a door sill”; “the point at which physiological and psychological effect begins to be produced, like your threshold of pain”; and lastly, “the place or point of entering or beginning, like the outset of an adventure.” More...

Selah Women’s Conference
Attention all mothers of George Fox students: The seventh annual Selah women’s conference will be held at George Fox University on Saturday, September 25, 2010. This year the conference is called It’s Time to Simplify – discover the Biblical truth that less is more!  Imagine releasing your hold on all of the things you believe are “good” in order to embrace what God has said is “best.”  Living simply doesn’t require perfectionism…just a willingness to prioritize your highest values, and the courage to spend your time and resources intentionally.  Come and join us as we hear from speakers Vicki Norris from Restoring Order and Sarah Thomas Baldwin, the university pastor. For complete information and online registration, please go to You can also find us on Facebook at

Women’s Self Defense Class
While GFU is a very safe campus with 24 hour security and local police regularly patrolling our streets, unfortunate events are always possible on and off campus.  Our students travel to Portland and throughout the world where we do not have any ability to control the environment of these areas.  For the fourth year running, in order to provide our female students with more skills to defend themselves, Residence Life is sponsoring a Women's Self Defense class over 3 sessions totaling nine hours of training.  We are offering it at the GFU price of $25.00 per woman and it will held on Sept 17 (6-9 pm), Sept 18 (9-noon), Sept 25 (9-noon).

Please contact the student life office at 503.554.2311 or email Dave Johnstone at for more information.

The Student Support Network
The Student Support Network (SSN) provides practical and intentional support for students who are struggling academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially, or personally.  If you would like to refer a student to the SSN please fill out the Intervention Alert Form found at  If you have further questions or concerns please see the contact information on the SSN home page.
