Investing in Students

This past weekend we welcomed almost 600 new students to the George Fox University campus! For the faculty and staff of George Fox this is our most exciting time of the year. We consider our work here a sacred trust. You have invested for many years in the formation of your daughters and sons and then you place them in a university setting where you want them to mature in their academic work and their faith. We take your investment seriously and it is our mission to hone your student’s academic skills and to refine and mature their faith. We want to treat every student like he or she were our own child.

Our efforts to connect your child with George Fox University began with Welcome Weekend and I hope that the parent’s comments we received this week reflect your own experience --
“We just got back into Tulsa from our WONDERFUL Welcome Weekend experience at George Fox University. There are no words to express our thanks for all your hard work to make the orientation extravaganza the fabulous blessing that it was. I couldn't even cry at the good-bye prayer time because my heart was so full of joy and thankfulness that God would bless us with such an incredible place for Andy to be enrolled. Going into the weekend, I admit I had ‘High Hopes’ and great expectations of the university…BUT, you blew us away from the very minute we drove on campus to the closing activities for the students Sunday night. Our son’s texts were a repeated confirmation of God's goodness: "I love it!" "Havinga blast!" "Thank you for making it possible for me to attend George Fox!"
Again, there is no way for us to adequately thank you – the whole experience was truly AMAZING! You and your team are appreciated!!!!”

It is a joy to receive a note or a word from a parent that lets us know that we were successful in our invitation to join the community! Our entire orientation staff, led by Stephanie St. Cyr and student assistants, Onjalai Flake and Kaylee Leddy, did an exceptional job of making new students feel welcome.
In our first two chapels this week we featured Hebrews 12:1: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” Your children are surrounded by people of faith at George Fox who have a commitment to run along side them in the “race” they have entered. We are thankful for your investment and look forward to working with you in the next four years to further the development of your children.

In Christ,
