From Parent to Parent; Your Student After College
Greetings:
My name is Dave Schram. I am currently in my third year as a member of the Parent Council and am a member of the Career Services committee.
Over the course of my business career, I've had the opportunity to observe, listen, and conduct interviews with many college graduates. It has been a very enlightening process, and from this experience I would like to share some of the things you as parents can do to help your college students prepare for the world outside of the protected college environment.

April 2006
From the Executive Director
In my messages to you throughout the year, I've encouraged you to think about a few things related to parenting young adults: releasing, supporting, praying, and encouraging. You may remember the illustration I used at the student passages session during the orientation at Genesis. When your child is in high school, they are the "boat" and you are the "anchor." You feel them tugging harder and harder against the anchor line, but you hold firm. During the college years, parents sever the anchor line and become the "lighthouse in a safe harbor" to which the boat returns again and again. Does this ring a bell?
Changed for Lasting Impact
By Brad Lau
Several years ago, there was a popular bumper sticker slogan that read, "Change is good. You go first." When many of us think about this issue of change and its impact on our own lives and communities, there is often a degree of uncertainty and apprehension about what "change" means. How will things look different? How will they stay the same?
A Note From the Parent Council
It's hard to believe the academic year is coming to a close in just a few weeks. My son is finishing his junior year, and it seems like just yesterday he started his freshman year at George Fox.
