From the Executive Director
It seems like the longer I live and the more I experience, my understanding about prayer increases. As with most things, the more I know, the more I understand how much I don't know.
I'm currently in the school of prayer, reading a book by that title written by Andrew Murray in 1895: With Christ in the School of Prayer . It is an amazing Christian classic available online if you search through the Christian Classics Ethereal Library. It's the most amazing and in-depth study on prayer I have ever read. Murray covers just about every aspect of prayer in this work, including:
• the importance of spending time alone with God
• coming to God as our heavenly Father
• how God teaches us how to pray when we spend time with him
• how God expects bold prayer requests and assures answers
Another aspect of prayer Murray covers in his book is the power of united prayer, "where two or more are gathered…," and the privilege the church enjoys when given the freedom to pray in concert.
I've always felt that one of the most blessed times of the year is when George Fox parents gather together to pray on the same day. Our annual prayer gathering on March 17 marks the eighth consecutive year we have hosted the event. We rarely have more than 120 parents involved each year, but those of us who take part in this annual blessing keep coming back! Why? Because praying in concert brings total strangers together in unity as agreed-upon petitions are brought before the Lord. We realize that we are all part of the George Fox family and what God is accomplishing in and through the lives of the campus community. We believe that God answers our prayers for our children as we trust their futures, careers, relationships, and decisions to him.
We are all busy, and most George Fox parents won't have the opportunity to join us, but if you'd like to take a few moments on March 17 to join us in prayer on your own, we'd love to have you!
The Lord bless you,
Sheri Philips
