From the Executive Director

Do you ever wonder how you can motivate your student to visit the Career Services office or check out available scholarship opportunities? I want to share some practical advice with George Fox parents and direct you to resources you may find helpful.

Career Services:

· It's never too early to stress to your student the importance of visiting with the Career Services office! All throughout the year the department arranges opportunities for professional networking, job shadowing, resume writing and mentoring.
· Go to the Career Services Web site. You'll find it to be very helpful!
· Check out the "Career Corner" portion of this e-newsletter.
· When you have the opportunity to discuss career possibilities with your student remember to be supportive, listening and non-judgmental. Try not to map out your student's career.

Financial Information:

· If you haven't already done so, it's time to fill out your student's FAFSA form for 2005-2006 if your son or daughter plans to enroll next year. To obtain the University's Title IV code number and gain access to FAFSA information, go to http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/stu_fin_srv/aid_ugrad.html
· Many scholarships are available to enrolled George Fox students. These scholarships are funded through the generous contributions of alumni and friends of the university. The application period for these scholarships is generally in early spring. Encourage your students to watch carefully for information or contact the Student Financial Services department.

Don't underestimate how much you can affect your student's willingness to explore these benefits. Your encouragement can impact them to darken the door of the Career Services office or sit down at their computer to check out scholarship opportunities! Have a wonderful February!
