May Serve Trips
This May, a team of 16 from George Fox will travel to
Brazil . Then, in June, a team of 17 will travel to
India for three weeks of ministry though service and
evangelism. We plan to reconnect while also
establishing new relationships in both countries. We
had a team in Brazil in 2003 and a team in India back
in 1997.
The first week of the Brazil trip will be in Londrina
, located in the southwest part of the country. The
first two days will consist of Portuguese language
training. The team will then get to practice
Portuguese and English during an English camp over
the weekend as they work with the Webb Institute of
Language. During that first week, the team will visit
and spend time with several families who work at a
coffee plantation and help with some work/renovation
projects at the camp where the team is staying. The
second and third week, the team will be in the city
of Sao Paolo , the third-largest city in the world.
We will assist OCI and its ministry to children
living on the streets and work in a village with
local fishermen and their families to help build a
community health center.
The first two weeks of the India trip will be spent
in Kohlkata. The first week will be acclimating to a
culture very different than our own. They will then
take a walking tour of the city, visit with several
NGOs to find out about some of their work with
victims of human trafficking, become familiar with
public transport in the city, and minister at a
school for orphans about an hour outside of the city.
The second week, we will work in the homes of the
Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa's homes).
Missionaries of Charity operates several homes in
Kohlkata: homes for the dying, severely handicapped
adults and children, and children's homes. We then
will take an overnight train trip to the coast for a
couple of days to rest. The final week of our trip
will most likely be in a village outside of Kohlkata
in an orphanage setting.
The teams are currently meeting weekly for prayer,
planning and implementing of fundraising activities,
and preparing for the ministry. If you would like
