George Fox University's Parents Day of Prayer

In Acts 6:4, it says, "But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the Word." I believe that parents are in continual prayer for their sons and daughters. But when we come together and pray collectively for each other's students, it can be very powerful. Samuel 7:5 says, "And Samuel said, 'Gather all of Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the Lord.'" Samuel was telling us that we need to gather together to be even more effective in our praying. This is the reason the Parents Council offers George Fox parents the opportunity to gather for a day of prayer.

The seventh annual Parents Day of Prayer is scheduled for March 11, 2006. We are holding the event on campus as well as in the homes or churches of parents in 14 regional sites in California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Alaska.

On campus, we will be meeting from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 104 of the Hoover Academic Building. Please come, if you can! We have a wonderful time praying together for our kids, in groups or on walks throughout campus. Three hours may sound like a long time, but it flies! My wife and I attended this event last year for the first time and it was truly a blessing. It was so powerful to see other parents gather to pray for my son and other students at George Fox. We were able to share stories and prayer requests with other parents. We also got to hear about the answers God had provided over the past year through our prayers.

The regional sites meet on March 11 as well, whenever it's convenient for the host. Regional gatherings are typically shorter. Videos are prepared so you can take a "virtual" campus prayer walk together. Parents who meet at regional sites pray through the same list of praises and requests that the parents on campus use. I would encourage you to take a morning out of your busy schedule and join us on March 11. It will be a blessing to you and the George Fox family. See you there!
