We are very proud of our phonathon team which consists of six student team members and one student supervisor. Each fall the phonathon team calls the George Fox University community with the opportunity to give to the Annual Fund or other special projects. One of the groups from the George Fox University community is parents of students. This year the Parent Council has chosen a specific project as a focus for the phonathon team when they call you and other parents during the second week of November, and that project is for several aesthetic improvements to Klages Dining Room. As noted in the recent ASC Student Project Fund/Parents Council proposal, "There are few areas on the campus that receive more daily use than this area. Most of the 1,034 residential students eat in this facility 2-3 times a day and it is also used regularly for programs and events on campus. (The) dining hall tends to feel a little too 'institutional' and lacks the warmth that such a space should create."
Those involved in this proposal are currently looking at a variety of artwork samples and types of lighting that could be incorporated to warm up this highly used and visible area. The plan over the fall 2005 semester is to utilize a team of students from the Family and Consumer Sciences/Interior Design program for recommendations.
The estimated cost is approximately $15,000 which is proposed to be funded through the ASC Student Project Fund, Parents Council and the university itself as needed. So, when you get a call from one of our wonderful phonathon team members for your participation in this project, you will now be in-the-know! And, once the enhancements have been made to Klages Dining Hall we hope you will have the opportunity to stop by and enjoy them, also.
