School districts highly value teachers who have specialist endorsements on their licenses. We've created the MAT Plus -- a program for teacher candidates to reach this goal during their Preliminary Teacher Licensure preparation.

MAT Plus offers specialist endorsements in:

11 additional credit hours are completed online for the MAT Plus ESOL and Reading specialist endorsements with course work embedded throughout the program. 19 additional credits hours are required for the Special Education endorsement and are completed in a hybrid format (both on-campus and online) as an additional two semesters following completion of the core MAT program.



MAT Plus ESOL Course Work

MAT Plus ESOL degree students take an additional four courses (11 semester credit hours) over and above the 36 semester credits required for the MAT degree. This course work is delivered online using an interactive web-based system allowing for thorough interaction between faculty and students. The four ESOL courses are offered during the last four semesters of the program, one course per semester. Full-time format students enrolled in the MAT Plus ESOL degree take their first ESOL course one month prior to the regular June start date.


MAT Plus Reading Course Work

MAT Plus Reading degree students take an additional five courses (11 semester credit hours) over and above the 36 semester credits required for the MAT degree. This course work is delivered online using an interactive web-based system allowing for thorough interaction between faculty and students. The five Reading courses are offered during the last four semesters of the program, 1-2 courses per semester. Full-time format students enrolled in the MAT Plus Reading degree take their first Reading course one semester prior to the regular June start date.


MAT Plus Special Education Course Work

MAT Plus Special Education degree students take an additional eight courses (19 semester credit hours) over and above the 36 semester credits required for the MAT degree. This course work is delivered both online and face-to-face, allowing for thorough interaction between faculty and students. The eight courses are offered during the final four semesters of course work, adding an additional two semesters to the length of most students’ program.
