George Fox University offers a part-time Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program at our Salem Site, located at Chemeketa Community College-Brooks.

We offer our part-time 16-Month MAT format at our Salem Site location:

16-Month MAT

  • Part-time*
  • 16 months (4 semesters)**
  • Offered in Portland, Salem*** or Redmond and Virtually
  • Portland and Salem classes meet one evening per week from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. with approximately one Saturday class per month. Redmond may meet two to three evenings per week during the fall, with typically two Saturday meetings per month.
  • Virtual classes are taught using a delivery method in which students interact with their professor and classmates online in real time. These virtual classes meet one to two evenings per week and one Saturday per month. Students are also required to attend one in-person session at the Portland Center each semester (4 total sessions over the course of the entire program).
  • Starts each year in early January

*The third semester in the 16-Month MAT format is full-time in order to complete student-teaching requirements.

**Teaching licensure can be earned after the third semester. The remaining eight credits can then be completed online while working.

***Single subject candidates in the Salem cohort will be required to complete their pedagogy course at the Portland Center one to two nights a week during the fall semester of the program.
