Living and Learning in Ecuador Program

Program  Overview
George Fox University students may apply to study in Ecuador for one semester in the Living and Learning Quito Semester Abroad program. This program is located in Quito, Ecuador, the capital of Ecuador. Quito is located in the Andes and is the highest capital city in the world at an elevation of over 9000 feet. The historic Old Town is a World Cultural Heritage Site. The Quito Semester is part of Living and Learning Program which is part of Youth World. Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world where you can experience the Andean mountains, the tropical rain forest of the Amazon Jungle, and the unique Galapagos Islands. 

Students can take a variety of courses including Spanish language courses, interdisciplinary seminars about Latin culture, history, ecology, politics, economics, and religion. Students will also have the opportunity to serve in hands-on internships. There is no language requirement for non-Spanish majors. 

Living and Learning Quito offers several internship opportunities, including Communications, Information Technologies Graphic Design and Digital Media;Business; Intercultural Studies; Education; Outdoor Leadership; Youth and Worship Ministries; Social Work, Family and Human Psychology; Pre-Med and Nursing.

Students will travel throughout Ecuador including a visits to the Amazon Jungle, Andean volcanoes, and the Galapagos Islands.

Program Fees
Students pay their regular George Fox tuition and room and aboard and continue to receive all of their financial aid. Due to the high cost of some programs an additional fee may be charged. The student is responsible for round trip airfare. There also may be an additional charge for a visa. The fee does include emergency travel insurance.

The student will fill out two applications:
•  George Fox off-campus application
The Living and Learning application should only be completed  after being informed from the Director of Study Abroad that you are accepted for an off-campus study semester.
Quito Semester application

Students must be full-time undergraduates with junior or senior status, holding a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher to apply.

Students will live in apartments and cook for themselves.  Students will spend five weeks in homestays with Ecuadorian families.
