The RN to BSN degree program in nursing at George Fox University is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education ( until June 30, 2023. George Fox University’s College of Nursing is also approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN).

George Fox’s RN to BSN degree-completion program is designed for registered nurses who wish to enhance their resumes, further their education and advance their careers as leaders in the profession. The part-time program combines personal face-to-face monthly seminars with online learning. 

Why earn a BSN?

According to a 2016 American Association of Critical-Care Nurses survey, 54 percent of hospitals and other healthcare settings are requiring new hires to have a bachelor’s degree in nursing (up 6.6 percentage points since 2015), while 97.9 percent of employers are expressing a strong preference for BSN program graduates. The survey incorporated completed responses from 576 schools of nursing.

Program Format

  • Consists of 24 credits taken in four semesters
  • Part-time curriculum (6 credits per semester)
  • Courses are taken one at a time so that students can focus on each area of study
  • Classes include face-to-face seminars two to three times each semester (at our Salem, Oregon location), with all other coursework completed online
    • Option for alternate virtual assignments to meet seminar learning outcomes
  • Flexible hybrid format with online coursework on your schedule

Transferring credits: A maximum of 90 semester credits (136 quarter credits) can be accepted from all two-year colleges combined. Grades must be C or better.

Employment Outlook

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for registered nurses will grow twice as fast as the national average for other occupations from 2016 to 2026.
  • According to the Nursing Health Workforce Model developed by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the demand for active RNs in Oregon will increase by approximately 1.9 percent each year for the next 10 years, between 2015 and 2025.
  • In Oregon, a recent research study conducted by the Oregon Center for Nursing   (OCN)   revealed that Oregon employers face difficulties in recruiting, hiring and retaining qualified nursing professionals across the health care industry. It also revealed that nearly 83 percent of hospitals and health systems plan to increase the number of registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree.
