The Doctor of Physical Therapy program welcomed Anne Carlin Zymkowitz as an assistant professor in 2026.

In the 21 years prior she worked as an outpatient physical therapist through the Kaiser Permanente Central Interstate Clinic in Portland, while also serving as a neurological clinical specialist for rehabilitation services through the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Region since 2014.

On the higher education front, she was an adjunct faculty member for the Oregon Institute of Technology and Oregon Health Sciences University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2025. She's also worked as an adjunct professor for Pacific University’s School of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training since 2018.

Her area of expertise is neurological physical therapy, for which she's carries board certification, NCS, since 2012. Her passion for the physical therapy profession stems from her commitment to the patient-provider relationship, emphasizing clinical empathy, excellence in communication and patient education, and awareness of the biopsychosocial determinants of health to allow for effective treatment interventions and evidence-based practice.

Zymkowitz earned a bachelor’s degree in English and pre-medicine from the University of Notre Dame in 1996, a doctor of physical therapy degree from Pacific University in 2004, and most recently a doctor of philosophy degree from Pacific University in 2024.

She lives in Portland with her husband, Scott, and her two sons, Leo and Walt. She enjoys gardening, yoga, hiking, riding her bike, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
