Message from the Director

The IDEA Center staff works with students to promote exceptional life outcomes. We collaborate with faculty, employers, community organizations and alumni to prepare students for experiential learning, whether through internships, field experiences, summer employment or jobs after graduation.

Students can schedule an appointment or drop in to talk to a Career and Academic Planning Coach (CAP Coach) for academic scheduling and advising, or a job and internship coach for career planning and job-search skills training.

Networking with Industries

The IDEA Center networks with industries across the region to let hiring managers know that we offer Oregon’s best talent. Recruiters who visit our campus find our students to be “exceptionally professional, articulate, polite and well-prepared for jobs of the future.” We have three annual events with over 100 employers to connect students with hiring companies - Job & Internship Fair, Engineering Expo, and Nursing Expo. Every student gets an account with “Handshake,” our job and internship portal where current jobs are posted.

Calling and Career Courses

We offer three one-credit courses – Discover Your Calling (CPAS 214); Internships: Finding, Landing and Succeeding (CPAS 216); and Navigating College to Career (CPAS 318A & 318B) – that go in-depth into preparing for a career.

You can schedule both career and academic appointments with a CAP or Career Coach in Handshake. Select the topic you want to discuss, select type of appointment, and select an available Coach.
