Engineering: Designing and Making

Pre-College Summer Programs

June 23-28, 2024

Gain college-level experience from one of the nation’s best engineering programs. Design and build a custom-animated mechanical project. Learn engineering essentials like 3D modeling, 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, Arduino and circuits, and how to animate customized projects.

In this immersive week-long experience, you will practice:

By completing this experience, you’ll be eligible for one college credit in engineering.

The cost for Engineering: Designing and Making is $1,700 per student ($1,500 for students from partner schools). This includes a week of immersive college-level courses taught by George Fox faculty, convenient on-campus lodging, three meals per day in the dining hall, and evening programming.

Todd Curtis, MS
Associate Professor of Physics

Todd Curtis received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado in 2010. He studied physics, math and mechanical engineering because he finds the combination of the daily life applications and challenging problem-solving fascinating.

While in graduate school, he researched the degradation of the mechanical properties of UV exposed polymers and spent time in Peru with Engineers without Borders working on a rural water supply project. He later gained industry experience as a research and development engineer at Applied Physics Technologies, where he researched, designed and built new electron sources for use in scanning electron microscopes.

In Colorado, he developed a passion for science education. He joined George Fox as a professor in 2014, and enjoys making physics fun and accessible while helping students synthesize their faith and science.
