Commencement

George Fox University annually hosts both spring and fall (midyear) commencement ceremonies for its undergraduate and graduate programs.

Upcoming commencement events

Application for Graduation

All students must complete an application for graduation. It’s recommended that students complete it two semesters prior to the term they graduate and at the latest, by the second week of the semester in which they plan to graduate.

Commencement Participation

Students are encouraged to participate in commencement the semester they complete their degree. Commencement ceremonies take place on the Newberg campus twice a year, at the end of the fall and spring semesters. Students can choose to delay their participation and attend a subsequent semester’s ceremony.

More details on commencement ceremonies

Students who have not fully met degree requirements but are within just a few credits of completing can request to participate in a commencement ceremony with incomplete requirements.

Note: You must be logged in to your George Fox email account in a separate tab on your browser to view the form.

Regalia

Regalia (cap and gown) will be ordered for all graduating students based on the sizing information provided on the application for graduation. Regalia will be distributed after the 10th week of the semester either at the Exodus Grad Fair (traditional undergraduate students) or by your department (degree completion and graduate students).

Exodus Grad Fair

Traditional undergraduate students are invited to the Exodus Grad Fair during the semester in which they plan to graduate. This is a great time to check in with all the departments about your upcoming graduation. If cleared to graduate, you will be able to pick up your cap and gown and commencement tickets at Exodus.

Graduation Announcements

Graduation announcements can be ordered online through Jostens.

Diplomas

Diplomas are mailed via first class to the address designated as your mailing address in MyGeorgeFox approximately 10 to 12 weeks after your graduation date. If you choose to attend the commencement ceremony, you will receive a diploma cover at that time.

Learn more about diplomas, including how to order replacement diplomas and request a notarized copy of one, on our diplomas page.

Expedited Degree Conferral

Conferring your degree may take six to eight weeks after your last classes have ended and your final grades are posted. Some students may need to have their degree conferred before this usual timeline for licensing purposes.

We encourage you to contact your professors to see if they can input grades as soon as possible. While waiting for final grades to be submitted, you may order an official transcript to be processed after the degree is conferred and can request expedited degree conferral with the transcript order

Alternatively, if a transcript is not needed, you can complete an Expedited Degree Conferral Request Form with a $25 payment. The degree will be conferred by the end of the next business day as long as all degree requirements have been met.
