Break Housing

Winter/Spring Break Housing

All living areas are closed over winter and spring break. However, we recognize some students need housing accommodations during break closures. To meet this need, we offer break housing to students in these situations:

  • Required sports programs
  • Home address is 200-plus miles away
  • On- or off-campus jobs requiring students to stay in town
  • Extenuating circumstances or illness
Note: Students who live in an on-campus house or apartment do need to apply for break housing. This has changed from previous years.

Winter/Spring Break Housing FAQ

You can fill out the "Break Housing Application" on the Housing and Community Life Portal for both winter and spring breaks.

Winter break: Housing starts the Saturday after fall semester finals week and ends the day before spring semester begins.

Spring break: Housing is available for the entire week of spring break.

Winter break:

  • $100/week (note that break housing cannot be prorated and is charged on a weekly basis)
  • Students staying less than a 24-hour period after break housing starts will have a $25 application processing fee.
  • There is no charge for students required on campus for athletic or academic programs (does not include work-study positions).

Spring break:

  • $100 (note that break housing cannot be prorated and is charged for the entire week)
  • Students staying less than a 24-hour period during break housing will have a $25 application processing fee, and will not pay the standard fee
  • There is no charge for students required on campus for athletic or academic programs (does not include work-study positions).

Housing fees are typically due on the first of each month. Late payments will be subject to late fees and account holds. Please connect with Student Accounts about billing details.

Winter break: Students will be assigned to their fall housing location in most instances. Unfortunately, some housing locations will be unavailable due to maintenance updates. Students applying for break housing in these locations will be placed elsewhere, and will be notified ahead of time.

Spring break: Students will be assigned to their spring housing location.

Summer Housing

Any student who is enrolled in classes for fall semester may apply for summer housing. Housing is provided on a first-come, first-served basis with a limited amount of spaces. Priority will be given to current students as well as those who are employed in an on-campus job without local housing options.

Summer housing options include double-occupancy rooms in apartments on campus.

2022 Summer Housing FAQ

Summer housing is available from May 2 to Aug. 1, 2022.

You can apply through the "Summer Housing Application" on the Housing and Meal Plan Intent form. Applications open on or around April 1, and are due on Friday, April 22, 2022 (applications are accepted after this date, but on a case-by-case basis.)

  • $200/month for on-campus employees, research scholars, and international students (billed monthly through student account)
  • $400/month for all other summer students (billed monthly through student account)

For residents who will be on campus for fall 2022, there is no charge for the month of August, and students will transition to their fall housing space in early August.

Note: Summer housing is billed on the first of each month and is not prorated by week. There will also be a $25 fee if you apply for housing but do not show up for housing. To avoid this fee you must cancel your application by the day before your summer housing begins.

Monthly housing fee will be due on the first of each month. Late payments will be subject to late fees and account holds. For your convenience, here are instructions for online payments.

Students will be assigned to summer housing on a space-available basis. Unfortunately, we are limited in our ability to consider living area preferences during this time. Assignments are based primarily on our need to facilitate summer checkouts and fall arrivals in early August.

Housing assignments for summer will be available when students check in. Because of the short turnaround time between spring semester and summer we are not able to provide this information until this time.

Students will be able to move into their summer housing during the first two weeks of May. Housing information and keys will be available for pick-up at the student life office during that time. Specific dates and times will be communicated via email.

Students leaving for Juniors Abroad on or before May 2 and then returning for summer employment will move in after they return from their trip.

Students are able to stay in their spring semester housing until moving to their summer space. These students will still need to check out with their RA at the appropriate time, but will be able to stay in campus housing until summer housing is ready. Please consult with your RA/AC regarding details.

Students living off campus for spring semester and then moving into campus housing may have a different move-in timeline. Information regarding move-in will be communicated via email.
