Spiritual Direction Training for DMin in LSF Graduates
Are you seeking spiritual direction training beyond your doctoral degree? Graduates of the seminary’s Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Spiritual Formation (LSF) program can now move into a year of online spiritual direction training with courses offered in the fall and spring semesters.
Program Details
- The certification process for LSF graduates is one part training and one part supervised practice.
- Training:
- The first two semesters teach you how to be a spiritual director. You will take SFAD 571 in the fall and SFAD 572 in the spring for three credits each. These are weekly online classes.
- If you’ve already completed outside training in spiritual direction, additional training is not required and you can skip SFAD 571/572.
- Supervised Practice:
- In the summer, you will take SFAD 578, which focuses on praxis hours under supervision. This is a one credit, asynchronous course.
- The final two semesters are dedicated to the certification process. You’ll take SFAD 576 in the fall and SFAD 577 in the spring for one credit each. These courses meet online a few times per semester.
- Certification requires completion of the following:
- 30 hours of spiritual direction with at least three persons over one year
- 10 hours of supervision and a written recommendation from your spiritual direction supervisor after all supervision and direction hours are complete
- Final interview with a Portland Seminary spiritual formation professor
