Little Bruins & FPNO

"... justice for the orphan..." (Duet.10:18)

Foster Parents Night Out is a monthly opportunity for students to offer respite care in the form of fun, party-like celebrations for children and youth in the foster care system, all while their parents or caretakers get to take the night off and rejunvenate themselves!  We help students get trauma-informed training and background checks for serving at FPNO and also local public school kids who might need a role-model, and teachers who could use some help from a volunteer!

Generation Connections

"... and the widow..." (Duet. 10:18)

Generation Connections are monthly get-togethers with our neighbors across the street in the Friendsview Retirement community. We get to spend quality time together in hopes of investing in mutually beneficial relationships between our students and our elder neighbors in retirement.

Rural service & Urban immersion

"... and who loves the strangers, providing them food and clothing..." (Duet. 10:18)

Whether building homes alongside future homeowners at Habitat for Humanity Newberg, joining local veterans to split, stack and deliver wood to warm the fireplaces of our disabled neighbors, serving at the Embrace Compassion Farm, or sharing time, meals and ministry with those being served by NightStrike or the Portland Rescue Mission, students can find weekly and monthly (walkable and driveable) opportunities to help nurture the holy habit of utilizing service to bring us closer to our rural and urban neighbors.

SpiL Trips

"...You shall also love the strangers for you were once strangers..." (Duet.10:19)

Whether it means traveling to Romania, Puerto Rico, Philadelphia or serving nearby neighbors in Yakama Nation, Spiritual Life (SpiL) trips offer students opportunities for cultural immersion and service-learning during Spring and Summer breaks. These experiences allow us to take the next step in encountering and to serving Christ through sharing the Be Known promise beyond our own comfort zones and beyond our borders!

2025 SpiL interns at The Chapel

Paid SpiL Internships

"You shall fear the Lord your God; him alone you shall worship; to him you shall hold fast..."
(Duet.10:20)

Each spiritual life internship is designed to help students engage in the dynamic intersection of spiritual formation, applied classroom concepts, preparation for long-term work using their strengths and skills, professional development, and collaborative interdisciplinary teamwork in a cross-cultural and ministry-minded workplace.
